  • Moving from New York to DFW, this family purchased an unaltered 1970s ranch house with the original features and layout. Looking to move into the home in time for their first daughter to start kindergarten, this project was a full gut remodel, but took into account potential future additions in the layout.

While a primary driver on this project was timeline, budget was another key component. The design team (Commonplace Building Workshop with Karia Design Studio) prioritized efficiency in planning so that the budget could be flexed as much as possible in higher end finishes. The new layout maintains two existing bathroom locations to limit the time and cost involved with moving plumbing fixtures in slab, but prioritized reworking the existing primary suite to enlarge its bathroom.
